The ERF, which is managed by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of Sheffield City Council, has the capacity to generate enough electricity to power up to 22,600 homes.

The ERF also provides hot water and heat for 148 buildings in the city including the Town Hall, the Crucible Theatre and the Winter Gardens via the award winning District Energy Network. The event, which is open from 10am until 3pm, allows visitors to:

 • Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility
• Visit the Control Room
 • Sit in a refuse collection vehicle
 • Visit our Mobile Exhibition Unit and speak to a member of our Recycling Team

Antony Smith, Plant Manager for Veolia Environmental Services in Sheffield comments, “We think that this is a great opportunity for residents to come along and explore what happens at our site - generating heat and electricity from waste and diverting it from landfill.”

Full tours of the facility last for approximately one hour and are available to those aged 16 years and over. Younger visitors are able to take part in a shorter version of the tour. Due to the popularity of the tours, pre booking is essential. Please call 0114 273 4567 or email sheffieldenquiries@veolia.co.uk
