With the average British household receiving around 650 pieces of junk mail each year, the majority of this either remains unopened or is unread which generates unnecessary waste.
Veolia’s Waste Awareness Team will be out in force on Fargate on Saturday 19 October from 10am until 3pm where residents will be able to fill in an opt out form and post through the ‘Stamp Out Junk Mail’ door. The team will also be handing out ‘No Junk Mail’ stickers for letterboxes.
Lynne White, Communications Manager, Veolia Environmental Services in Sheffield commented: “There are simple steps residents can take to wise up to junk mail, such as signing up to the mailing preference service, displaying “no junk mail” stickers on their letter boxes and ticking opt-out boxes when buying products and services.
If we can reduce the amount of junk mail residents receive then we can have a big impact on the amount of paper waste we create in Sheffield.”
