The introduction of an all new pricing structure, means prices vary according to the number of items to be collected. A collection of up to three items costs £18, a collection of between four and six items costs £30; seven to nine items costs £42, and ten to twelve items costs £54.
Items such as carpet and underlay, wardrobes, tables and chairs, mattresses, sofas and electrical items such as televisions and DVD players, along with white goods such as fridges, freezers, cookers and washing machines can all be collected through the service.
Martyn Pashley, Operations Manager for Veolia Environmental Services said, “Our bulky collection service is perfect for those items that are too big and heavy to transport to one of the HWRCs or for those residents who don’t have access to their own transport. Once collected, we aim to reuse, recycle or recover as much of the bulky waste as possible”.
Cllr Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene at Sheffield City Council said: "We are pleased to put in place a much simpler price structure which will really help people who only have a few bulky items to get rid of. Putting money back into people's pockets is the right thing to do given the current economic situation".
Those in receipt of Housing Benefit, Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Pension Credit or Employment Support Allowance are eligible for a subsidised service with prices starting from £10 for up to three items. Housing Association tenants, are entitled to at least one free bulky collection per year depending on Housing Association.
