Bin Collections Update (12 August & 13 August)

Bin collections are scheduled to take place from 6am on Wednesday 12 August and Thursday 13 August due to very hot temperatures forecast this week.

In order to prioritise the health and safety of their colleagues, Veolia, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, has announced that waste and recycling collections in Sheffield will be taking place earlier than usual, to avoid the hottest time of the day. Crews will be starting collections from 6am onwards in order to work safely.

Residents whose bins are due for collection this week on Wednesday (12 August) and Thursday (13 August) are advised to put their bins out the night before collection to make sure it gets emptied.

A bigger blue bin announced for all Sheffield residents

Sheffield City Council and Veolia will begin replacing 140l blue bins with larger 240l bins across the city between July and December 2026.  The new blue bin will be the same size as your brown bin and make it easier to recycle paper and card.

Residents should continue to put the current blue bin out on their usual collection day before 7am.  Extra paper and card can be placed next to the blue bin – just make sure it is bundled together, tied with string, and is no larger than your bin.

Additional recycling bins will also be provided at flats, where the current bins are filled prior to collection day.
